New York based architects Matthias Hollwich and Marc Kushner of HWKN, recently asked Bruce Mau Design to redesign their firm’s website.
Our mission was to make the HWKN site more intuitive and visual. They also wanted a flexible system they could easily maintain themselves. For this reason we used Cargo Collective, a platform that runs off a template system. In order to get unique look and feel, we made some “clever tweaks” to the code and used an open source webfont from “the league of movable type” called Titillium.
The site works really well on tablets and looks great on mobile devices.
For BMD this was an exercise in building on an existing template, and thinking outside the box. We knew the site had to be constantly changing and wanted to make it easy to update, a bit playful, and a part of different online communities, including tumblr, twitter and their own creation Architizer. Yes, these are also the same guys behind Architizer!
HWKN is doing some amazing work, including BOOM! A lifestyle community in Palm Springs, designed for 21st Century living and aging. BMD initially worked with Hollwich and Kushner on the BOOM project (more on that here) and we are thrilled with the results.
Check out all the great stuff HWKN has got going on.
